The 5 Day Nervous System Reset

Day 4: Pendulate

A free somatic reset for your nervous system. Your body learning what safety actually feels like.

Today we're practicing pendulation: letting your attention swing gently between something that feels a little hard and something that feels okay. Instead of pushing through discomfort or avoiding it, you get to touch it lightly and then come back. We're keeping the hard part small, just a bit of tension somewhere in your body, not a memory or a big feeling.

Find a spot where you can sit for a few minutes. Your eyes can be closed or open. Go at your own pace, and if anything feels like too much, open your eyes, look around the room, and press your feet into the floor.

Journal prompt:

Where in your body did you find "okay" today? What made it feel that way? When you came back to it after touching something uncomfortable, what did you notice? Where in your life could you use more permission to step away from what's hard and come back to what's okay?

After you listen

Notice how your body feels now compared to five minutes ago. You might notice a sigh, a yawn, some warmth, or a little softening. Those are signs your nervous system is settling. You might also notice nothing at all, and that's normal too. If the uncomfortable spot felt bigger instead of smaller, that's okay. It just means your body is paying attention. Every time you return to what's okay, your nervous system learns that it can feel something hard and still find its way back.

Try it on the go

The next time something feels tense or overwhelming today, find one thing that feels okay: your feet on the floor, a warm mug in your hands, something nice to look at. Let yourself stay there for a few breaths before you go back to what's hard. And whenever you can, end on what's okay.
