The 5 Day Nervous System Reset

Day 3: Breath

A free somatic reset for your nervous system. Your body learning what safety actually feels like.

Today we're bringing attention to your breath, not to change it or get it "right," but to notice how you're already breathing. It's a simple practice, and one you can take with you into meetings, family get togethers, and hard conversations.

Find a spot where you can sit for a few minutes. Your eyes can be closed or open. Go at your own pace, and skip anything that doesn't feel right.

5 Day Reset: Day 3 - Breath
Morgan Warnock

Journal prompt:

What did you notice about your breath before you tried to change anything? Are there places or people in your life where you find yourself holding your breath? What would it feel like to let yourself exhale there?

After you listen

Notice how your body feels now compared to five minutes ago. Calmer, sleepier, more alert, or not much different at all are all normal responses. If paying attention to your breath felt uncomfortable, that's okay too. You can always come back to your feet or to looking around the room. Your nervous system is learning something new, and that takes repetition, not perfection.

Try it on the go

Anytime today you notice yourself holding your breath or bracing, let out one slow exhale, a little longer than your inhale. That's it. Small moments add up.
