My Engagement Ring

After yesterday’s cleaning (and wedding band window shopping!), I thought an engagement ring photo was a necessity. I absolutely love my ring and spent some time thinking about it today as I was photographing it. It’s such a clear reminder of so many things- most obviously and importantly, Dave’s love for me and his desire to commit his life to me. As a vintage ring, it’s also a reminder of life and how I want to live- simple and modestly beautiful, strong and able to withstand time. It’s not average, it’s not flashy, it’s exactly what I never knew I always wanted – just like my life with Dave (and our six kiddos). I’m thankful for this reminder, every time I look down at my hand or feel my ring around my finger, of deep, real, authentic love. (For anyone like me who wants to know the ring details it is a 1920s Art Deco yellow gold and platinum ring. My fiance, Dave, picked it out himself and he did SO good. I am in love with it and couldn’t have found anything more perfect...

Kate and Alex’s Patrick Ranch Wedding // Chico Wedding Photographer

I first met Kate and Alex on their wedding day, which isn’t typical. They are even sweeter than I had imagined. They live together in Alaska, but decided to have their wedding at the beautiful Patrick Ranch in Alex’s hometown of Chico. I left their wedding that day thinking, “Yes! This is EXACTLY what I love about being a wedding photographer.” Their day was intimate, focused around their marriage and their relationships with friends and family, and a whole lot of FUN. During Kate and Alex’s ceremony they had several people, including both sets of parents, share advice. I loved hearing what everyone had to say and the love that they had for each other. There was definitely a few tears shed all around. For their reception they had the live band Decades. Let me tell you, Decades definitely know how to bring the party. Everyone had a great time dancing and celebrating Kate and Alex’s new marriage. Travel Diary // South Lake Tahoe

Last week I was in Tahoe for a fun commercial shoot. I found the cutest place to stay through hotels.com called The Coachman Hotel (I highly recommend both the hotel and hotels.com).  It looks like it may have been built in the 70s, but they are in the process of completely renovating and restoring it and have turned it into a truly beautiful place. They rooms had a modern, yet woodsy feel and even had Apple TV (which I didn’t get the chance to use) and heated toilet seats (nice!). The lobby and patio area were designed with beautiful details. It turned out that my sweet friend (and amazing wedding planner) Jodi was also in town also for a family vacation. We had the chance to grab a glass of wine together during happy hour at The Coachman and were given a tour of the future event area. It would be a great hotel for an event or for a wedding party and guests to stay. The next morning there was a breakfast bar complete with Stumptown coffee (Dave and I visited the famous Stumptown during our engagement trip to Portland). To eat there was granola, bagels, pastries, cereal, yogurt and toast. I only wish there was a few more gluten free options, but everything looked delicious. I also got the chance to have dinner with my friend Melissa. I met her and her husband in Chico, but they have since moved back to Tahoe where they both grew up. I loved chatting and catching up with her and we had a gorgeous view of the lake during dinner at The Beacon. (The Beacon...
