6 Tips for Beautiful Engagement Photos

Engagement photos are such a fun part of the wedding photography experience. I always suggest couples do them, if possible. A lot of times these are a couples’ first professional photos together. Not only are they nice to have, but it’s the best way to get comfortable with your photographer and how you all work together. Here are a few tips to make your photo session go smoothly and your photos turn out amazing. 1. Wear what you love. Most people choose to have two different outfits for their photos. This can mean one dressier outfit and one more casual or whatever you’d like. No matter what you wear- wear what you feel comfortable in. Wear what makes you feel absolutely beautiful. I recommend wearing outfits that coordinate (certain color shades, one wearing a print and one wearing a solid, etc) and steering clear of being too matchy-matchy. 2. Pick a location that is meaningful to you. I strongly believe that any location can be beautiful. I love an abandoned building just as much (if not more than) a beautiful field of wildflowers. A special spot might be the place that you met, where you went on your first date, your favorite place to hang out, or even in your own home. 3. Use props sparingly. If you two love picnics, then by all means set up a picnic for your shoot, but don’t feel like you have to do something elaborate for your photos. Props can be cute, but aren’t necessary and should be used sparingly. 4. Consider having your hair and make-up professionally done. I know most...

Chico Photographer // First Day of School

Yesterday was the first day of school for my four little sweeties. I guess they’re not so little anymore. My BABY started kindergarten, which was quite the emotion ordeal (still is) for Mama. Finley, on the other hand, was SO excited for the first day of school and walked right in with confidence. From left to right, they are Judah- 6th grade, Finley- kindergarten, Samuel- 4th grade, and Silas- 1st grade. I love these people so, so much!...

Chico Engagement Photographer // Holly and Sean’s Upper Bidwell Park Engagement Session

Holly and Sean happened to have their engagement session on one of the hottest days of the year, but you would never guess that from their photos. They were super troopers and Sean even came prepared with an ice chest full of water bottles (thank you so much for sharing one with  me!). How they managed to look so beautiful in spite of the heat, I have no idea, but I’ll take it! Sean is a forest fireman and Holly is a talented artist and designer. They’re a perfect match and both obviously madly in love with each other. I liked Holly from the first time I met her, but hearing her excitedly talk about the wines they picked out for the wedding sealed the deal- she’s definitely a girl after my own heart. Holly and Sean, I can’t WAIT to shoot your wedding this Fall....
